A farmer allegedly murdered his three-month-old son on Sunday in Bihar’s Aurangabad district, 150 km south-west of Patna, reportedly because he suspected his wife’s fidelity, police said.

Raushan Lathore, 32, from Dhanaura village, reportedly thought the infant was not his biological child as their features did not resemble and that his wife Kuldhan Devi, 26, was having an affair, the police added.

On Sunday, while the child was being fed, Lathore reportedly snatched the baby from his mother and killed him, said the police. He then began assaulting his wife, they added.

The cries of the woman alerted villagers who rescued her and restrained Lathore before thrashing him and informing the police.

The police have arrested Lathore on the basis of the wife’s complaint.

Lathore, the police said, used to have regular verbal altercations with his wife, ever since she delivered the baby boy — the couple’s first child.

He would challenge her character and, at times, even assault her physically, they added.

“Ever since the birth of the child, Lathore refused to accept him as his biological son. He would also question the character of his wife and torture her on suspicion of bearing an illegitimate child,” said station house officer of the Tandwa police station, Sajid Hussain.

Of Bihar’s 10.41 crore population, 54,278,157 are male and 49,821,295 female, as per Census 2011.
