a major embarrassment to the BJP, son of a state minister has been caught on camera thrashing a man after he allegedly did not let his vehicle pass.

The incident took place on June 1 in Banswara but the video footage went viral on social media on Saturday. In the video, minister of state for panchayati raj and rural development Dhan Singh Rawat’s son Raja can be seen overtaking a car and blocking the road before getting off.

He then opened the door of the car and dragged the driver out before raining blows on him. Raja was accompanied by other men, who too came out of his car and joined Raja in beating up the victim identified as Neerav Upadhyay. It’s been almost a month and no FIR has been filed against the MLA’s son.

The opposition Congress has demanded strict action against the accused. PCC president Sachin Pilot has condemned the incident. “This unfortunate incident reflects the arrogance of those in power. It seems that people in power have been given a free hand by this government to break the law,” he said.

“This matter is a month old and has been settled between both the parties. We cannot take action on this issue as nobody has lodged a written or verbal complaint,” Banswara superintendent of police (SP) Kalu Ram Rawat said.

said, “The victim was pressurized as his father is a government employee. The police can register a complaint under IPC section 323 (voluntarily hurting someone),447(criminaltrespass) and other sections but the police is also not acting under political pressure.”

There have been other incidents in the past where politicians’ relatives have resorted to violence.

In December last year, two sons of Rajasthan minister Surendra Bhadana were booked for allegedly abducting and beating up a man in Alwar after he was found standing near people abusing the minister a day earlier.

In March this year, a BJP MLA from Garhi constituency in Banswara, Jeetmal Khant, manhandled and threatened a toll plaza staff. A CCTV camera installed inside the toll cabin showed the legislator slapping the toll worker.
