Gangster Munna Bajrangi shot dead in UP jail
Gangster Prem Prakash Singh alias Munna Bajrangi was shot dead allegedly by another gangster Sunil Rathi after an altercation inside Baghpat jail Monday morning, police said.
The incident took place 10 days after Bajrangi’s wife Seema Singh addressed a press conference in Lucknow accusing the Special Task Force of hatching a conspiracy to murder her husband.
Bajrangi was shifted to Baghpat from Jhansi jail around 9:30pm Sunday night for an appearance in a local court on Monday in an extortion case.
Sources said Bajrangi was shot at 5:30am when the prisoners were being served tea. Bajrangi was accused in multiple cases of murder, attempt to murder and extortion. He was the key accused in the sensational murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, who along with his seven supporters was killed during an attack on his motorcade in Ghazipur district of eastern Uttar Pradesh on November 29, 2005.

“I want the most rigorous punishment possible for all the men who murdered my husband. God and judicial system always do justice,” she said. After Rai’s murder, police announced a ₹7 lakh reward for Bajrangi’s arrest.
UP director general of police OP Singh confirmed that the gangster was shot dead inside the jail after a brawl with Sunil Rathi who was lodged there.
Additional director general, prison, Chandra Prakash suspended four jail officials as the murder left the government and the police department red-faced.
“Rathi has been detained and is being interrogated. We are probing how the firearm reached inside the jail. It is a serious lapse,” Prakash said.
