ASHA inspires 25 males to undergo sterilisation
Lalita Rathi, an accredited social health activist (ASHA), stole the show at the state-level function on World Population Day on Wednesday as she had convinced 25 males in Baran city to undergo sterilisation.
Health department additional chief secretary Veenu Gupta called her on the stage to share her achievement so that other ASHAs are motivated. “First, I convinced my husband to get vasectomy done and then I told women in the community that my husband has undergone sterilisation and there is no weakness and he is doing routine work,” said Rathi, who hails from Baran.
Citing her husband, she motivated 25 males in Baran, who underwent no-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) during 2017-18. She said the situation of male sterilisation was pathetic in Rajasthan as less than 1% males underwent sterilisation.
Health minister Kali Charan Saraf and other dignitaries felicitated Rathi with a cheque of ₹5,100 and a certificate. He said population stablisation fortnight will be organised from July 11 to 24 in which message related to benefits of family planning will be given in villages and hamlets. Health workers will meet people to make them aware about the need for family planning, he said.
Minister of state for health Banshidhar Khandela said increasing population has become a big challenge for the entire world.
Six districts —Ajmer, Kota, Baran, Bhilwara, Alwar and Tonk — were awarded for excellent performance in family planning during 2017-18. Churu, Sriganganagar and Rajsamand districts that were on first three positions for giving excellent results in PPIUCD were awarded.
