TWO DIE, FOUR MISSING AS RAIN LASHES MANY PARTS OF STATE

Two persons drowned and four were missing in rain related incidents in the past 24 hours, even as moderate to heavy rainfall was witnessed in many parts of Rajasthan on Tuesday.

According to the water resources department, in the last 24 hours till 8.30am on Tuesday, Sawai Madhopur received maximum 117mm rainfall, followed by 92mm rainfall at Kishanganj in Baran district and 90mm rainfall at Manoharthana in Jhalawar district. Many places in Banswara, Baran, Bundi, Dausa, Dholpur, Hanumangarh, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Karauli, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar and Tonk received rains ranging from 36mm to 90mm.

According to information, six people — three youths, a woman and two girls — were swept away at Pipalwad in Sawai Madhopur district. One of the youths drowned, while the woman, a youth and a girl were rescued. A youth and a girl are yet to be traced.

In Baran district, two youths were swept away and there is no clue about them. A youth drowned at Manoharthana in Jhalawar district while trying to save a cow that was swept away in the heavy flow of rainwater.

The state received 266.34mm rainfall against the normal rainrall of 201.68mm from June 1 to July 24, which means there was 32% excess rainfall during the period. Six districts are in abnormal category (60% or more than normal rains) comprising Bharatpur, Bikaner, Churu, Dungarpur, Jhalawar and Sikar, while 14 districts are in excess category (20%-59% more than normal rains) comprising Alwar, Banswara, Baran, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Ganganagar, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Karauli, Kota, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur and Udaipur.

Twelve districts are in normal category (19% to minus 19% than normal rains) comprising Ajmer, Barmer, Bundi, Dausa, Dholpur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Pali and Tonk. Only Sirohi district is in deficit category (minus 20% to minus 59% than normal rains). Out of 831 the small and big dams in the state, 35 dams are full, 395 dams are empty, while 401 are partially full.

The meteorological department has forecast thunderstorm with light to moderate rains at most places in east Rajasthan and at few places in west Rajasthan.

There is forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Ajmer, Alwar, Banswara, Baran, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Dausa, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Jhalawar, Karauli, Kota, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi, Tonk and Udaipur.
