Kathurmar MLA Mangal Ram and his supporters saved a person who was being swept away, along with his bike, while crossing a rain-fed nullah on Tuesday morning.

Kishorilal Meena, who works at the University of Rajasthan, was going to work and took the risk of crossing the overflowing nullah and was being swept away.

Jaipur has been receiving regular rainfall since Saturday, due to which the nullah near Kartarpura started overflowing. “It was raining and I was sitting at home when I heard someone screaming ‘Bachao, Bachao’ (help). My gunman, Madho Sharma, was taking a bath and I asked him to look out. Sharma rushed out and saw a person and his bike were stuck in the railings. He held on to the man,” said Mangal Ram.

Meanwhile, Ram’s supporters came out. “The flow of water was strong and it was difficult for Sharma to keep holding on to the person, so I asked my supporters to get a rope. But they could not find a rope immediately. I asked them to get my turban and with the help of the turban we saved the person,” the MLA added.

Apart from Ram and Sharma, his supporters Satish Jaiman, Dara Sharma, Padam Chand Saini, Naresh Yadav, Narpat Yadav and Brahma Sharma were among the rescuers.

Last year, too, a youth named Ayush had been swept away, along with his car, in the Kartarpura nullah. His body was recovered after a week.
