LAWYER DENIES MUMBAI ATTACK CONVICT HURT IN PRISON ASSAULT

lawyer of Pakistani-American convict in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack case David Coleman Headley, has denied reports he was attacked at a detention centre in Chicago.

John Theis, who has represented Headley for years, said the reports were “news to me”.

“I have no information about that,” he said over phone from Chicago where he practices. “I cannot disclose where he is but I can tell you I have no information that he was attacked,” Theis said.

Earlier, reports suggested Headley was attacked on July 8 at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago by two inmates and had suffered serious injuries. The reports said he was rushed to the North Evanston hospital.

The lawyer also said Headley was not being held in Chicago.

When asked if Headley had been attacked, the Metropolitan Correctional Center wrote back, “We are not able to locate information about this individual.”

Authorities have not ever publicly disclosed where Headley, a Pakistani-American sentenced to jail for 35 years for multiple crimes, including involvement in the Mumbai attack, is being held.

A search of his name — David Coleman Headley — on the inmate-locator of the federal Bureau of Prisons, which runs federal prisons and facilities, has always returned “0 Results” and a search for “David Headley” yields details for an inmate who was released in 1992.
