‘Babur comment a slip of tongue’

: Rajasthan BJP president Madanlal Saini said on Friday that his statement about Mughal emperors Babur and Humayun was a slip of tongue.

On Tuesday, Saini got his facts mixed up when he said a dying Mughal emperor Humayun had told his father Babur that he should respect cows, women and Brahmins if he wanted to rule India.“When Humayun was dying, he called Babur and told him: ‘If you want to rule Hindustan, you must keep three things in mind: respect cows, Brahmins and women’,” Saini said.

The state BJP chief got his history wrong as Babur was Humayun’s father and had died in 1531, 25 years before Humayun breathed his last in 1556. His remark came days after a Muslim man was allegedly beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of cow smuggling in Alwar district.

Saini was trolled for the faux pas. “Saying that Humayun was Babur’s father was a slip of tongue. I wanted to say that Babur on deathbed had told his son Humayun to respect cows, Brahmin and women for ruling India,” he said during his visit to Kota after becoming the state BJP president.

He accused the media of being selective in running his statement instead of understanding the underlying sense that even Mughals talked about respecting cows, Brahmins and women.

Saini was in Kota to oversee preparations for chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s ‘Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra’ beginning August 4 from Charbhuja temple in Rajsamand district. Saini said there was confusion in the Congress over a CM candidate. “They know that no Congress leader is able to ensure their victory in the coming assembly polls, so they have not announced any CM candidate so far,” the state BJP chief said.
