Cong president meets Karunanidhi
Indian National Congress (INC) president Rahul Gandhi visited Kauvery hospital in Chennai on Tuesday evening to enquire about the health condition of DMK president M Karunanidhi and said that the veteran DMK leader was doing well.
Karunanidhi is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital since Saturday due to urinary tract infection and agerelated ailments..
“I met Karunanidhiji in Intensive Care Unit. We have a long relationship with Karunanidhi and DMK. He is doing well and his health condition is stable,” Rahul told reporters.
“Karunanidhi is tough like the people of Tamil Nadu. Karunanidhi has the spirit of Tamil Nadu. I am happy to say that the leader is stable now.”
Rahul also said that his mother and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi had asked him to express her wishes for the speedy recovery to Karunanidhi.
The Congress leader was in the hospital for nearly 15 minutes. He was accompanied by the party general secretary Mukul Wasnik and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su Thirunavukkarasar.
Amid heavy rainfall, thousands of DMK and Congress cadres continued to raise slogans to welcome the Congress president and also for the speedy recovery of the DMK leader.
DMK senior leaders Duraimurugan, A Raja, TR Baalu received Rahul Gandhi at the entrance of the Kauvery hospital. Rahul made enquiries with the DMK working president and Karunanidhi’s son MK Stalin and Rajya Sabha MP MK Kanimozhi about the health condition of the DMK leader. He was taken to the ICU where Karunanidhi has been admitted.
Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu health minister Vijaya Bhaskar said that the health condition of Karunanidhi continues to remain stable.
“I have spoken with doctors who are attending to Karunanidhi. They told me that the DMK president is stable,” said Vijaya Bhaskar.
“He responded well to the medical management and his vitals have gradually normalised. Although there has been a resolution of condition which lead to his hospital admission, an extended period of hospitalisation will be necessary due to age related overall decline in his general health ...” Dr Aravindan Selvaraj, executive director, Kauvery hospital said in a statement on Tuesday evening.
SA Vigneswaran Sanasee, president, Senate of Malaysia also visited the ailing DMK leader on Tuesday.
