day before chief minister Vasundhara Raje is set to start her 40-day ‘Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra’, state Congress president Sachin Pilot asked why should the public bear the expenditure for an electoral campaign.

Referring to a government order dated August 1, Pilot said the public works department (PWD) has been directed to arrange tent, sound system, dais, and so on for the meetings Raje will address during the yatra (rally) starting from Saturday from Charbhuja Nath temple in Rajsamand district.

The Congress will ask a question daily for 40 days, which the CM has to reply, he said, adding the BJP government in Rajasthan “has no accountability, dialogue (with people) and never given a satisfactory reply.”

“BJP leaders, such as home minister Gulab Chand Kataria and state party chief Madan Lal Saini, have reportedly said that the yatra is organised by the BJP,” Pilot told newspersons at the Pradesh Congress Committee office.

“Our first question is — Why is public money being used for BJP’s meetings? Who has given them permission to use public exchequer and how far is it justified morally and legally?”

The Rajasthan Congress had alleged that the beneficiaries of welfare schemes invited to the July 7 rally of the Prime Minister were BJP workers and supporters. The Congress had accused the government of misusing machinery and resources for the party event.

Pilot said the CM has “not only dishonored the public mandate but betrayed it.” After the formation of the BJP government in Rajasthan, the ruling party lost a majority of bypolls to the Lok Sabha, assembly, and panchayati raj institutions. The BJP stands

exposed as people have assessed its rule, he said.

“Now that the BJP lost recent Lok Sabha and assembly bypolls in the state, under pressure from Delhi they are taking out Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra,” he claimed. “People and the Congress are asking -- of 620 promises made before elections, how many are fulfilled?”

Pilot claimed the yatra would not have any impact as 7 crore people of Rajasthan has no interest left in having a dialogue with Raje.

Raje’s statement that mob lynching incidents are increasing because of unemployment shows the BJP’s distance from people. Raje should ask her party MLA Gyan Dev Ahuja if his statements are uniting or breaking society, Pilot said, adding another BJP union minister is linking lynchings with PM Modi’s rising popularity.

“Congress does not wish to politicise the issue as it is related to humanity, and raised it in parliament. It is BJP which is doing politics in name of cow and temple but was exposed when thousands of cows died at shelters,” he said.

Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi said the BJP in its close to five-year tenure in the state has misused people’s money. “Even this yatra is funded from the public exchequer.”

He said, “Farmers are committing suicide; loan waiver is only for those taken from cooperative banks and not nationalised banks. The government is all set to sell Kota and Chabbra thermal plants.”
