Indian high commissioner to Pakistan calls on Imran
Indian High Commissioner Ajay Basaria on Friday congratulated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on winning the general elections and felicitated him on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Bisaria’s meeting with the PTI chairman took place at his Bani Gala residence in Islamabad in the presence of senior PTI leaders including its vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, information secretary Fawad Chaudhary as well as Shireen Mazari, who is tipped to be Pakistan’s next defence minister.
Bisaria said he hoped a new chapter in the Pakistan-India relations would soon begin.
“The telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the PTI chairman has given birth to this new hope,” he said.
ISLAMABAD:
“India is confident that relations with Pakistan will take a turn for the positive,” he added.
The high commissioner also presented to Khan a bat signed by the members of the Indian national cricket team.
In response, Imran Khan stressed the need to restart dialogue between the two countries on all outstanding issues including Kashmir. He expressed concern over the human rights violations in the valley. He also expressed hope of Indian participation in the upcoming Saarc Summit, scheduled to be held in Islamabad.
Prime minister Modi, during a telephone call on July 30, had felicitated Imran Khan on his election victory. “India desires progressive relations with Pakistan,” Modi had said.
