Cop killed, 5 injured in Kashmir gunfight
PREDAWN ENCOUNTER The militants, despite two of them being injured, manage to escape, police detain two accomplices
A policeman with the special operations group (SOG) was killed in a gunfight with militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Batmaloo area in Srinagar on Sunday. The militants, although two of them were injured, managed to escape and two of their accomplices were detained, the police said.
Five other security personnel, including two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men, were injured in the shootout that started during a pre-dawn raid launched after the police received information about a militant hideout in the area, which is surrounded by the by zonal police headquarters, control room and civil secretariat.
Director general of police(DGP) Shesh Paul Vaid said an SOG trooper, Pervaiz Ahmad, was killed in the shootout. Ahmad was a resident of Dandote village in Rajouri district.

fire. “While the searches in the area were going on, terrorists hiding in a house which had a proper hideout for them fired indiscriminately on the security forces,” a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said the security forces exercised maximum restraint in retaliation “considering the residential population and other civil establishments around the area”.
“A massive search operation is underway in the area as it is understood that in the exchange of fire, terrorists were also injured,” the spokesman said.
Deputy inspector general of police, central Kashmir, VK Birdi said the police had detained two accomplices of the militants.
