The Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (Jaipur discom) is pulling all stops to improve electricity supply in rural regions, particularly to the agriculture consumers. Taking a dim view of disruption in supply in rural areas of Jaipur division recently, the Jaipur discom chairman and managing director (CMD) RG Gupta has suspended two junior engineers (JE).

“Two JEs, Sanjay Kumar Meena of sub office Newar (Jamwargarh) and Sunil Kumar sub office Bibirani (Kotkasim), have been suspended for not maintaining the three-phase block power supply to agriculture consumers,” Gupta stated in an order issued on Thursday evening.

With elections scheduled by year end, the state government has shifted its focus to resolving the issues in the rural regions and improvement in electricity infrastructure is high on priority. The Jaipur discom has about four lakh registered agriculture consumers. “The engineers have been directed to ensure that the same priority is given to maintaining the electricity supply in rural areas as it is given in the cities. As part of the initiative, the project to replace faulty transformers of agriculture consumers within six hours has been extended to all the 13 circles across 12 districts,” a discom official said.

The scheme is tailor-made for the farmers.

Once they lodge the complaint of faulty transformer on the discom’s Bijli Mitra App, it is replaced within six hours. Earlier, the farmers had to run from pillar to post to get the burnt or faulty transformer replaced. Each assistant engineer sub-office has been provided two to three vehicles and extra reserves of transformers for efficient implementation of the scheme.

A pilot project was launched in Jhalawar recently, under which faulty transformers are being replaced within three to six hours of lodging the complaints on the app.
