Monsoon revives in state, rain predicted

: Rains are expected in Rajasthan as the southwest monsoon has revived in the state after taking a break for 15 days, the meteorolog­ical department said.

The department predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in the southeast Rajasthan and light-to-moderate showers in the eastern and western parts of the state.

Till July 24, the state received 32% excess rain -- 266.34mm against the normal mark of 201.68mm. With the weakening of the system, the state received 325.34mm rain till Friday against the normal of 365mm, a deficit of 10.8%.

Till July 24, six districts -Bharatpur, Bikaner, Churu, Dungarpur, Jhalawar and Sikar -- were in abnormal category (60% or more than normal rain). Alwar, Banswara, Baran, Bhilwara, Chittorgar­h, Ganganagar, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Karauli, Kota, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai

Madhopur and Udaipur districts were in excess category (20%-59% more than normal rain). Ajmer, Barmer, Bundi, Dausa, Dholpur, Hanumangar­h, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Pali and Tonk districts were in the normal category (19% more to minus 19% of normal rains). Sirohi district recorded deficit rain (minus 20% to minus 59% compared normal).

As on Friday, three districts -Bharatpur, Bikaner and Sikar -are in excess category. Nineteen districts -- Alwar, Banswara, Baran, Bhilwara, Chittorgar­h, Churu, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Ganganagar, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Kota, Nagaur, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur and Udaipur – are in the normal category. The districts that recorded deficit rain are Ajmer, Barmer, Bundi, Dausa, Hanumangar­h, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Jodhpur, Pali, Sirohi and Tonk.
