every year, dengue is putting the health department in a quandary in the state.
Jaipur has witnessed the maximum number of dengue cases in Rajasthan. There have been 1,937 dengue cases in the state from January 1 till August 22, 2018, of which 802 cases were in Jaipur.
The chief medical and health officer Jaipur (I) Dr Narrottam Sharma said, “The health department is doing its best to combat dengue and anti-larval activities are being undertaken.”
He said that the health department, district administration and Jaipur Municipal Corporation are carrying out awareness drives, door-to-door surveys, anti-larval activities and fogging and are also putting up hoardings to combat the mosquito-borne tropical disease.
Speaking about the high number of positive cases, Dr Sharma said that Jaipur is the capital and has a lot of government and private healthcare facilities, so people from nearby areas and other districts come here and the case is reported from Jaipur, which pushes up the number of positive cases.
A health department official, who did not want to be named as he is not authorised to speak to the media, said, “The health department alone cannot do everything. The JMC is not working due to which it is difficult to control breeding of mosquitoes. There is filth, garbage, water logging, accumulation of rainwater,

Last year from January 1 to December 31, there were 8,427 cases of dengue and 14 deaths.
The official also added that the health department can only treat patients, but the situation is getting worse due to the lack of coordination among all departments. “The main responsibility lies with JMC, which is not working Swine Flu cases Chikungunya cases Malaria cases No. of deaths properly,” the official alleged.
“All departments are working in coordination and regular monitoring is being done. In case of any issues, meetings are held and issues are resolved immediately,” said Dr Sharma.
Additional director (rural health) Dr Ravi Prakash Mathur said awareness is being created and hoardings informing people about measures to be taken to prevent seasonal diseases have been put up. The hoardings have been put at Ambabari, Collectorate Circle, Vidhan Sabha, Janpath, Mahesh Nagar, SMS Hospital, Dengue cases Zenana Hospital, Chomu Circle, Sanganeri Gate and at Sanganeri Gate.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the global incidence of dengue has grown dramatically over the recent decades and about half of the world’s population is at risk. While there is no specific treatment for dengue, early detection can lower fatality rates.
The symptoms of dengue are sudden high fever, severe headaches, pain behind the eyes, severe joint and muscle pain.
a total of 1,937 dengue cases in the state from January till date, Kota has reported 152, while Jaipur has reported 802 cases.
Kota chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr Ramkant Lavaniya said, “Our success for keeping dengue cases at low number has been because of strong political will.”
He said a meeting of ward councillors, political workers and others was held under the chairmanship of MLAs and their motivation inspired people to work with dedication. Members of Parliament also took keen interest in this campaign.
He added that even NGOs are involved in creating awareness among people about dengue and other seasonal diseases and people are following it.
Apart from this, all departments are dedicatedly working in cooperation and in coordination, he added.
Dr Lavaniya said the district administration is involved and weekly monitoring is being done.
Even youth are taking part actively and are working towards making Kota free of the

mosquito-borne disease.
Although efforts were being made to replicate Kota model in Jaipur, it is yet to bear fruits. The inter-department coordination seems to lack in Jaipur.
Additional director (rural health) Dr Ravi Prakash Mathur said, “Help of other departments are being taken and strict monitoring is being done.”
