: The ABVP on Friday declared its candidates for the Rajasthan University elections, naming Rajpal Chaudhary for the post of president and including two women candidates in its panel.

Apart from Chaudhary, ABVP has fielded Dinesh Chaudhary for the post of general secretary. It has fielded two women candidates —Anuradha Meena for the post of vice-president and Meenal Sharma on the joint secretary post.

The panel members were given a warm welcome on their arrival at the University of Rajasthan campus. Talking to the media, they expressed confidence of winning the student polls.

Rajpal Chaudhary, whose father is a farmer, said he was thankful to ABVP for reposing faith in him and giving the ticket to someone who comes from a humble background. “I am confident that our panel will win. We will work for welfare of students,” said Chaudhary.

This time, the student union elections will be held in the state in two phases. In the first phase, elections will be held on August 31. Elections in the Jodhpur division will be held on September 10 as chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra is underway in the division till September 2.

finalise the names of the candidates. The ABVP has kept in mind social engineering by giving tickets to two Jats, one Meena and a Brahmin candidate.

However, there was still the threat of rebellion with Amit Badbadwal, who was seeking a ticket for the post of president, threatening to contest as an independent.

According to the programme for the student union elections, the electoral rolls will be published on August 23 in all divisions except Jodhpur. The final voter list will be released on August 24. Date of filing of nominations is August 25. After scrutiny and objections to the nominations, the valid nominations and the final list of candidates will be published on August 27. Voting will be held on August 31.

Dissidents have been a headache for the ABVP which lost the post of president to rebel candidates in the last two years. In 2017, Pawan Yadav, who contested as an independent after being denied a ticket by ABVP, won the post of president.

In 2016, ABVP dissident Ankit Dhayal won the post of president, defeating Akhilesh Pareek of the ABVP.
