Six candidates will contest for the president’s post in the Rajasthan University Students’ Union polls, according the final list declared on Monday.

“After the scrutiny of nomination forms on Monday, as of now 31 candidates will be contesting elections to various posts,” said Professor VV Singh, chief election officer, RU. On Saturday, 53 nominations were filed.

According to the final list released by the department of students’ welfare, six candidates are in the fray for the president’s post, eight each for general secretary and joint secretary, nine for vice-president, and five for the research representative post. Rajpal Choudhary is the ABVP candidate for the president’s post and Ranveer Singh Singhaniya is of the NSUI. Four independent candidates are Mahesh Samota, Vinod Jakhar, Dushyant Singh Chundawat and Vinod Kumar Kumawat. Samota, Jhakar and Chundawat are NSUI rebels.

ABVP heaved a sigh of relief when four rebel candidates — Amit Badbadwal, Arun Sharma, Nitin Sharma and Vijendra Kumar Gurjar —withdrew their nominations for the president’s post. They had filed their nominations as independents when the ABVP announced Rajpal Choudhary’s candidature.

“All the four rebel candidates from ABVP who have withdrawn their papers today are now supporting us. We are sure that we will win as we are fighting for the cause of students,” said Choudhary.

Uttam Choudhary of the NSUI, who could have affected the vote bank of his organisation, withdrew his name for the president’s post.

After not getting ABVP tickets, Sandhya Suthar and Aditya Pratap Singh of the orgnisation turned rebels and filed their nominations for the general secretary post. They might affect the vote share of ABVP candidate Dinesh Chaudhary.
