Govt discriminating teachers, says Gehlot

Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said the BJP government is discriminating against teachers and spending money from the state exchequer on a Teachers’ Day function for political gain.

Gehlot said in a statement that the education department has invited only the newly appointed teachers for the function. He said for the first time, the government will spend ~11.51 crore from the state exchequer.

He said the government is worried about public resentment and has issued orders to teachers not to wear black clothes or carry any black objects.

Gehlot said Bharatiya Janata Party is organising a function on September 4 for beneficiaries of the SC/ST loan waiver scheme and newly appointed sanitation staff in Jaipur. “By inviting beneficiaries again and again, and making them feel obliged, chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is making the beneficiaries feel ashamed,” said Gehlot.

“It is the government’s responsibility to implement public welfare schemes and programmes, but the Bharatiya Janata Party government is making the beneficiaries a medium to fulfil its political interest.”

He said Raje is taking such steps because she is worried over the forthcoming elections. She has found a new way to display her popularity by gathering crowds of beneficiaries, which is not fair from the democratic point of view.
