Telangana engg student kills minor for rejecting his marriage proposal

An engineerin­g student has allegedly killed a 16-year-old girl who rejected his marriage proposal, police in Telangana said.

Aravind (the police gave only one name), who is around the age of 20, allegedly slit neighbour G Nikita’s throat in her house in Sangareddy district, about 30 km from state capital Hyderabad, after an argument on Thursday night, police said.

Officials said Aravind, a third-year BTech student in Maharashtr­a’s Nanded, had been stalking and harassing the Class 10 girl for a few months, during his regular visits home from college.

Afer Nikita returned from school on Thursday, Aravind, who was visiting, went to her house and threatened her with consequenc­es if she rejected his marriage proposal An argument ensued, and Aravind lost his cool. He picked up a kitchen knife and slashed her throat , according to the police.

Neighbours rushed to Nikita’s help, responding to her cries for help. They caught hold of Aravind and handed him over to police in Bollarum village in Jinnaram block, where the crime took place.

Nikita, the daughter of Tarakeshwa­ra Rao — who works in the local cottage industry and is from Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, was taken to a private hospital at Kukatpally, where she died after a couple of hours. Her body was shifted to a government hospital at Patancheru for post-mortem.

“We have booked a case of murder against him (Aravind). The case is under investigat­ion,” said Bollarum inspector Satish Reddy.
