Alwar lynching: VHP leader equates accused to Bhagat Singh

- Urvashi Dev Rawal htraj@htlive.com

: A local leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Alwar district on Thursday likened the three men arrested for killing Rakbar to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Nawal Kishore Sharma, the head of the VHP’s Gau Raksha Dal in Ramgarh, said the Hindu community should become aware and fight against injustice.

Sharma was the man who had informed the police about the Rakbar incident. Rakbar Khan was killed by a mob on suspicion of cow smuggling when he and an associate, Aslam, were taking two cows through Lalwandi village in Alwar district on foot in July this year. Police have arrested Dharmendra Yadav, Paramjeet Singh and Naresh in the case while a fourth accused, Vijay, is absconding.

The case became a huge embarrassment for chief minister Vasundhara Raje government which faced flak from activists, political parties and the minority community.

Speaking to HT, Sharma said that when Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were wrongly accused and hanged to death but the leaders at the time such as Gandhiji and the Hindu community remained mute spectators. “It was only after their hanging that there was a revolt against the British in the society. Today too the Hindu community remains a mute spectator to the injustice to the three accused in the Rakbar killing. But they should fight against injustice and harassment being meted out by the administration and the government,” he said.

He said there should be a CBI inquiry into the incident so that the truth could come out.
