The probe into cases lodged against doctor Satyendra Katewa, accused of conducting half-matched bone marrow transplants (BMT) and under whose treatment 23 children died, has been transferred to Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police (SOG).

Two FIRs were registered against Dr Katewa on June 28 and 29 under section 304, 386, 420, 468 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code at the Vidyadhar Nagar police station.

“We have transferred the two cases registered against the doctor to the SOG on Monday. From now, the investigation will be done by them,” said Radha Mohan Gupta, station house officer at Vidyadhar Nagar Police station.

Two months ago, parents of 23 children from Sonepat, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Jaipur, Kolkata, Amritsar, Delhi, Indore, Siliguri had gathered in Jaipur demanding justice for their children.

In February this year, letters were written to the Prime Minister’s Office, the ministry of health and family welfare, National Human Rights Commission and Rajasthan’s health department. The other departments taking cognisance of the matter had written to the state health department additional chief secretary (ACS) for taking necessary action.

Dr Katewa said that he is unaware of the fact that the investigation against him has been transferred to the SOG. “I am unaware of the fact that the investigation has been transferred. Whenever I get a notice from any department, I will give them a reply.”

The doctor was carrying out haploidentical (partiallymatched) stem cell or bone marrow transplant at the Soni Manipal Hospital in Jaipur.
