Sharma to represent India at World Cup
Sharma is set to make his debut at the ISPS HANDA Melbourne World Cup of Golf later this year as he was one of the first 28 players announced by tournament officials on Friday.
To be held at The Metropolitan Golf Club from November 22 to 25, the tournament will see 56 players vie for the largest prize money purse in Australian golf, with $7 million on offer. “I’m really excited to qualify for my first World Cup of Golf at The Metropolitan. Since the start of the year, I made this event as one of my goals to try and qualify as it has so much history, tradition and a wonderful list of past champions which include many of the great names and legends in golf,” said Sharma. ninth at the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship in March where he led into the final round.
FUJIKAWA 1ST GOLFER TO REVEAL HE IS GAY
Tadd Fujikawa, the youngest American to make the cut in a US PGA Tour event, became the first openly gay male professional golfer, making the revelation in an Instagram post.
The 27-year-old from Honolulu said he had been pondering about going public for some time before telling the world he is gay.
“I thought that I didn’t need to come out because it doesn’t matter if anyone knows,” Fujikawa wrote. “But I remember how much other’s stories have helped me in my darkest times to have hope. I spent way too long pretending, hiding, and hating who I was.”
