The Rajasthan Police will promote 6,000 constables to the rank of head constables at a state level ceremony, to be held at the Rajasthan Police Academy in Jaipur on Wednesday.

“Many constables who join department on the post of constable retire from the same post without getting promotion. Understanding the pain and mental condition of such constables, the state government and police headquarters have decided to promote them,” said director general police (DGP) OP Galhotra, who will head a special team of 10 senior police officials that has entrusted with the organisation of the ceremony.

Chief minister Vasundhara Raje in her 2018-19 budget speech had announced to promote 6,000 constables who have served for 18 or more years in the department. “In order to implement CM Raje’s announcement, the police department has been very working hard for last two months for the screening of eligible candidates. The department has also made amendment in the existing norms,” said Galhotra.

“In future also, 50% posts of the head constables will be filled through screening, so that every constable can retire from a promoted post. This decision will also boost the confidence of entire department and the social stature will also be enhanced,” he added.

The police department is also claiming that for the first time in the history of Rajasthan Police, 6,000 constables are being promoted at a time.

Chief minsiter Vasundhara Raje and home minister Gulab Chand Kataria will remain present during the ceremony.
