HYDERABAD: AMRUTA, WHO CLAIMED HER FATHER INSISTED ON HER ENDING THE MARRIAGE, SAID SHE WILL BEAR PRANAY’S CHILD AND ENSURE JUSTICE IS DONE TO HIM

Telangana police has picked up seven people, including the suspected contract killer, for the murder of a Dalit Christian man in Miryalguda in Nalgonda district in a case of alleged honour killing, officials said on Tuesday.

Subhash Sharma, the alleged assailant, was arrested from Bihar.

Shocking closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage of the incident telecast on TV showed Perumalla Pranay Kumar walking out of a hospital in Miryalguda with his wife, Amrutha Varshini, when the assailant paced up and attacked him with a machete from behind, killing him instantly.

Amruta, from an upper caste community, had claimed on Monday her father Maruti Rao and uncle were behind the attack as they strongly disapproved of her marrying a Dalit Christian. The names of some people with political links have also cropped up but police is yet to confirm their involvement.

The incident, which occurred last Friday, had also triggered protests by some Dalit groups in Nalgonda.

Amruta, who claimed her father insisted on her ending the marriage, said she will give birth to Pranay’s child and ensure justice is done to him. She has also refused to return to her paternal home.
