No water, benches in this featured school
“Ab bahut badal gaya hamara school (our school has changed a lot now),” says the caption with the photograph of a Class 7 student of Bharatpur in an advertisement published in Rajasthan newspapers on August 30.
The message next to the photo of student, Nitesh, mentions:
“Hamare school me ab pankhe, furniture hai, peene ka saaf pani hai, aur khel ka maidan hai. Teachers roz aate hai aur achcha padhate hain, school me hi khana milta hai aur ab to doodh bhi milne laga hai. Ab hamare school me pehle se zyada bachche padhne lage hain, mere bhi roz school jane ka man karta. (Our school now has fans, furniture, clean drinking water and playground. Teachers come every day and teach well. We get food in school and now even milk. Now, more students are studying in our school than before.)”
However, the students of Nagla Dharsoni Government Upper Primary School, which the advertisement refers to, sit on the floor, bring water from home, as the only hand pump in school is defunct for a year, and there are only three teachers for 108 students. Students of Classes 1 to 8 sit in three classrooms.
Principal of the school, Mahesh Meena, said there’s no connectivity to the school.
“Teachers drive through agricultural fields for five km to reach the school,” he said.
The student, Nitesh Kumar, whose photograph is used with the advertisement said he was taken to Jaipur on August 29 with his school principal and was photographed. “I never spoke anything about my school,” he said.
“No one asked me about anything in my school. They just asked me to smile,” he added.
Bharatpur district education officer Mithlesh Sharma said, “I am not aware about lack of facilities at this school, but will talk to block education officer.”
The Akhil Rajasthan Vishwa Vidyalaya Shikhsha Mahasangh called for a symbolic protest against the state government on Tuesday to press for the implementation of the 7th pay commission recommendations.
Several teachers gathered near the main entrance of Rajasthan University to stage a symbolic protest, following which memorandums were sent to the Governor’s House, Chief Minister’s office and the office of higher education minister Kiran Maheshwari.
The federation convener, DS Keechee said if the demand to implement 7th pay commission is not fulfilled until October 2, they would go on a protest for indefinite period. HTC
