Rewari gang rape: Police continue to hunt for 2 accused
Police teams are working round the clock and conducting raids in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Delhi to arrest the two absconding accused in the Rewari gang rape, said deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Kanina Vinod Kumar.
He said the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Special Task Force (STF) and police teams are part of the raids and have received key inputs about the whereabouts of the accused Pankaj and Manish . “The two men will be arrested soon,” he said. The DSP added that during the investigation, the main accused in the case, Nishu, provided important information, which would help in tracing the absconding accused.
The case pertains to the abduction and gang rape of a 20-yearold woman, who once topped the 10th standard Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board examination from Haryana’s Rewari district last week.
Meanwhile, a woman assistant sub-inspector (ASI) has been suspended over the alleged delay in taking action in the gang rape case. “The superintendent of police (SP) Rewari, suspended an ASI Heeramani Devi, who was posted at the women police station (where the woman filed the complaint) for not taking timely action...an inquiry will be conducted against her.” Rewari’s District Bar Association has decided that no advocate will represent the accused, association president Ravinder Yadav said.
