Bengal beat Assam; Services, Tripura too register victories

Bengal defeated Assam by five wickets Friday for its third win from four games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group ‘C’ league.

Asked to bat, Assam lost opener Parviz Aziz (1) in the second over, when he was trapped leg-before wicket by Kanishk Seth. There were no significan­t partnershi­ps with only the 38-run stand between Riyan Parag (32) and Abhishek Thakuri (27) being the highest as the team were skittled out for 150.

Bengal reached the target in 25.4 overs, but not before losing five wickets. Opener Vivek Singh led the way with an aggressive 51.

In another match, Services continued their good run, thrashing a strong Gujarat by nine wickets, riding on a superb ton by opener Ravi Chauhan.

Services, who opted to field after winning the toss, restricted Parthiv Patel-led Gujarat to 219 for 7 in 50 overs.

Rujul Bhatt was the top scorer with 56.

In reply, Services rode on Ravi Chauhan’s unbeaten century and Gahlaut Rahul Singh’s fifty to seal the deal with 71 balls to spare.

In the third match of the day, Tripura got the better of bottomplac­ed Rajasthan by 48 runs. Brief scores: Tripura 242/7 in 50 overs (B Shetty 107, B Ghosh 76; R Chahar 3/44) beat Rajasthan 194 all out in 45.1 overs; Gujarat 219/7 in 50 overs (R Bhatt 56*) lost to Services 220/1 in 38.1 overs (R Chauhan 106*); Assam 150 all out in 38.5 overs (P Pramanik 4/27) lost to Bengal 151/5 in 25.4 overs (Vivek Singh 51).
