While the battle for the Nagar assembly seat will feature candidates from across the political spectrum, the tussle that will be most keenly watched is the one between the incumbent BJP MLA and Nem Singh. A popular farmer leader belonging to the Jat community, Nem Singh has been at the forefront of the demand for channelling water from the Yamuna and Chambal, better roads, electricity and quality health care and education for the last 18 years.

Prominent Congress faces in the area are Nem Singh, Sudesh Kumar and former Union minister Sachin Pilot.

A district council member on a Congress ticket, Nem Singh said, “The sitting BJP MLA has failed to bring any development She failed to allot money from her MLA fund for the welfare of the people. People across castes and communities are disappointed with her.”

Irfan Khan, a 31-year-old farmer from Bela village said, “With the exception of Gujjars, people here are deprived of basic services. We have put together groups to rally support for Nem Singh.” Ilyaskari, a 50-year-old farmer from Sikri said, “People across communities want to see her (Anita Singh) soundly beaten.”

Anita Singh has completely failed to develop the constituency. People across communities have resolved to come together and ensure her defeat in the upcoming polls.
