Congress accuses BJP leaders of diverting issues

- HT Correspondent htraj@hindustantimes.com

Hitting out at the BJP, All India Congress Committee spokesperson Pawan Khera on Monday alleged that whenever its leaders are asked about the account of five years of its rule in states or centre, they divert the issues.

“They (BJP leaders) forget their manifesto and promises made to people. When they are questioned (by people), they call them anti-national; they do not respect the democratic process, be it centre or the state,” said Khera, while addressing newspersons after a meeting of the party’s media and communication committee in Jaipur

Khera said since the duo of Narendra Modi or Amit Shah has come, leaving Gujarat, the party has not come to power again in any state. “In Bihar too they lost technically and Goa also,” he added.

Khera said, “We will not let them divert the issues in these elections, be it farmers, youth, women or Dalit; they won’t forgive them. This is their habit. Either they consider people fool, or try making (them); the people are not fool, nor they will become.”

He said, “Whenever they (BJP leaders) are asked question, they have a set pattern of answers; they start from Pakistan, Ayodhya, Kashmir and divert the issues, but we will keep on asking.”

Reacting to Khara’s charges, BJP spokesperson for Rajasthan Mukesh Pareek said the Congress’ main agenda now is to lie, which was started by AICC chief Rahul Gandhi and state Congress chief Sachin Pilot is following his leader.

“Our chief minister (Vasundhara Raje) is making direct dialogue with the public and (has) shown full accountability. We are accountable to public and don’t find replying to Congress (charges) necessary. BJP has fulfilled over 90% of promises made in the manifesto,” he said, adding that there will be no impact of the Congress’ lies.
