-

A man, who was posing as a police officer, was caught on CCTV camera repeatedly slapping a shopkeeper in south Delhi’s Madangir, police said.

While the shopkeeper alleged that he was thrashed for refusing to give a gift item for free, police said the assault was over the purchase of a mobile phone.

Vijay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (south), said police have identified the suspect as Deepak Chaudhary, a resident of south Delhi’s Chhatarpur Extension. “We are booking him for assault,” said the DCP.

Thevictim,SagarKhera, owns a shop in Madangir which deals in garments and gift items, including imported mobile phones, said Sagar’s brother, Apaar Khera. Apaar said that Chaudhary had visited the shop around a month ago and set his eyes on an imported mobile phone and a pack of showpiece playing cards. “That time, he had introduced himself as a Delhi Police sub-inspector and wanted to take away the phone set without paying for it, but we refused,” Apaar said.

On Sunday evening, Chaudhary again arrived outside the shop and called Apaar on his mobile . “He wanted us to hand over the playing cards for free too. I refused and told him to speak to my brother who was inside the shop at that time,” alleged Apaar.

Chaudhary stayed outside and sent his friend to the shop to get the gift item. “His friend paid Rs 300 for the item and that left Chaudhary enraged. He entered the shop and began slapping my brother ,” said Apaar. HTC
