JAIPUR:Showing Modi and CM Raje made many promises before polls. Now we are playing them out before the public. We are making them remember their lies... RAGHU SHARMA, Congress campaign committee chairman

of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s videos at a Congress meeting in Sikar in the presence of AICC president Rahul Gandhi is part of an election strategy to expose the BJP, opposition party leaders said.

“Modi and chief minister Vasundhara Raje made many state- ments and promises before elections. Now we are playing them out before the public as their fiveyear term is about to be over. We are making them remember their lies which people have understood,” said Congress campaign committee chief Raghu Sharma.

At the Congress’ Sikar rally, videos of Modi’s statements before and after the 2014 general elections were shown. The videos include his statements on black money, surgical strike, demonetisation, GST, FDI, petrol-diesel prices, inflation and ‘make me chowkidar not the PM.’

Congress leaders asked the people if Modi’s promises have been fulfilled. Gandhi said, “This is not Modi’s face or speech but the BJP’s reality; they say something and do something else.”

On October 22, AICC general secretary and former CM Ashok Gehlot said, “Looking at Modi’s previous speeches, Congress need not even campaign in the state and the country.”

Sharma said, “The Congress just has to play their (Modi’s and Raje’s) old speeches.”

Congress media committee chairman Govind Singh Dotasara said the videos were played to highlight how Modi showed dreams to the voters, and then made a U-turn and cheated them. “We are using the technology to bring the truth out in the open. People should know how many lies a person has said to become the prime minister. We will use these in rallies and in meetings.”

BJP spokesperson Mukesh Pareek said Gandhi’s campaign shows that the Congress has no issues to counter the BJP.

“Using such means will not help the Congress as people are aware of the development work done by Modi. We will counter Congress strategies as we have so much works to show,” he said.

The Congress in Rajasthan has also launched WhatsApp numbers to counter the BJP. The state IT cell will create WhatsApp groups in 33 districts, 200 assembly constituencies and in about 50,000 booths. The Congress will circulate videos, pictures, speeches, fact sheets, rally itineraries, and messages of senior leaders, among others.
