Satya Pal Malik on Monday said attackers involved in the cold-blooded murder of BJP leader Anil Parihar and his brother Ajit Parihar stand identified and will be brought before the people soon.

The Parihar brothers were shot dead by unidentified attackers on Thursday night in Kishtwar town while they were returning home after shutting their stationery shop in the communally sensitive district.

Since then, the town remains under curfew with relaxations in phases for few hours on Saturday and Sunday. Malik was fielding media queries here after inspecting guard of honour on the reopening of Darbar Move offices in Jammu for the next six months.

“Attackers involved in Kishtwar incident stand identified. It was a terrorist attack and they (attackers) will soon be in front of you,” said Malik.

Acts of violence and terror were being committed out of sheer frustration because the recently concluded four-phase local body elections were conducted very peacefully, he added.

“Their (terrorists) mentors across the border (in Pakistan) are not comfortable with the peaceful local body elections and hence militants are being pushed for terror activities,” said the governor. On how big is the challenge to conduct panchayat elections from November 17, Malik said living in Jammu and Kashmir and being its governor itself is a challenge. “But we will manage these elections as well. Weather has to stay stable and we will tackle militancy. We are not going to allow militancy to hamper democratic process,” he asserted.

On stone-pelting in Kashmir, he said, “No major incident took place in the last two months because I addressed the issue very honestly. Only 10 to 20 youth got involved. Not even a bird was hurt in the last two months during local body elections.”

He also said the government was working on Rohingyas and work on their biometrics will be completed in the next 2 months.
