Rush of stalwarts on ‘auspicious’ nomination day
Considering it to be an “auspicious day” for them, many senior leaders of major political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, filed their nomination papers for the December 7 state assembly elections on Saturday.
Among the bigwigs who filed their nominations during the day included chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
Raje filed nominations for Jhalrapatan constituency. She reached the venue to file the nomination accompanied by her son, Jhalawar MP Dushyant Singh, daughter-in-law Niharika and BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.
Among other senior leaders who filed the nominations on the day included cabinet minister Rajendra Rathore from Churu, Banshidhar Bajiya from Khandela, Anita Bhadel from Ajmer South, Vasudev Devnani from Ajmer North and Gajendra Singh Khinvsar from Lohavat.
BJP rebel and state minister for Devsthan department, Rajkumar Rinwa also filed his nomination papers as an independent from the Ratangarh constituency.
According to astrologers, Saturday being Akshya Navmi is considered lucky for those starting new work. “It is believed that result of any act or work done on Akshya Navmi doesn’t go waste. As per the planetary movements, the lucky period to start any work was between 2pm and 4.30pm (Saturday),” said Mahesh Sharma, a city-based astrologer.
In Jaipur, 59 candidates filed their nominations for the 10 assembly seats.
From BJP, Mohan Lal Gupta filed his nomination from Kishanpole, Ashok Parnami from Adarash Nagar, Kailash Verma from Bagru and minister Kalicharan Saraf from Malviya Nagar. From Congress, Lal Chand Kataria filed his nomination from Jhotwara, Prashant Sharma from Amber, Sitaram Agarwal from Vidyadhar Nagar and Ganga Devi from Bagru.
Interestingly, the first candidate to file the nomination from Jaipur was Congress leader Suresh Mishra, who filed his papers for the Sanganer constituency. However, his name did not didn’t figure in the second list of Congress released later in the evening. The Congress has fielded Pushpendra Bhardwaj from the Sanganer constituency.
MLA from Adarsh Nagar constituency, Ashok Parnami reached the returning officer’s room around 1.45pm, but waited for 20 minutes in the room, so that he could file the papers at the “auspicious time” of 2.10pm predicted by his astrologer.
Exactly at 2.10pm, one of the Parnami’s astrologers present in the room started chanting mantras, after which Parnami got off from the chair and took three steps forward to submit his nomination papers.
