India have been on a roll in the ICC Women’s World T20. They finished unbeaten through the League stage, defeating Australia by 48 runs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Saturday to top Group B. They will now face the loser of West Indies v England in the semi-finals on Thursday while the winner will take on Australia in the other last-four clash.

No 3 batsman Jemimah Rodrigues feels the victory against Australia is a big confidence boost but India are focused on lifting their performance in semis. “I think it’s important not just because it’s Australia, but for ourselves and our team, because we’ve got the momentum,” Jemimah was quoted as saying by ICC website.

“So we need to keep that momentum, keep doing the things, don’t focus mainly on the results. So I think it plays a huge impact on our team and I think we look forward to it, but not get carried away and try to do even better in the semi-finals.”

After a shaky performance with the bat against Ireland, India — led by opener Smriti Mandhana and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur — registered their highest score in T20 Internationals (167) against Australia. Smriti led India’s charge after early setbacks and was joined by Harmanpreet. This time, she chipped with an explosive 27-ball 43 including three fours and as many sixes while Smriti did most of the damage, scoring 83 off 55 deliveries. Runs 124*

“Yes, (that knock) from Harmanpreet definitely discussed (before the match) in our meetings,” revealed Jemimah.

“It’s always good to remember the good stuff we’ve done. And it plays an impact and motivates each other. So we have spoken about that.

“So I think today (Saturday) also Harry di and Smriti, the partnership they had, I think if Harry di would have stayed for longer, we would have remembered a bit of the same one. But I think it was good.”
