All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and party in charge for Rajasthan, Avinash Pande on Wednesday accused the BJP of stopping the welfare schemes started by the UPA government.

“People of every caste and community are depressed with the leadership and misgovernance of chief minister Vasundhara Raje,” said Pande, addressing media persons at the state Congress headquarters on the last day of campaigning.

In an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress leader said, “In the past few days when PM came to state for campaigning, he didn’t mention any achievement of the state government. In his speeches, PM targeted the Congress president by making personal comments.”

Pande also took a jibe at the relations between PM Modi and Raje saying that despite so many public meetings, both were seen together for a few times. “The relation between the Prime Minister and chief minister in the past five years was the major reason for the plight of the state. Just because PM does not like CM personally, the people of the state had to pay for it,” he said.

Amit Shah, the AICC general secretary said, “If we analyse the speeches and statements of Amit Shah, you will find him making personal comment. He also tried to distract people from the issue of development.”

“The sad thing is that not only Shah, but all the central leaders of BJP who came to the state to campaign gave the caste certificate to ‘Hanuman-ji’, and tried to distract people’s mind,” he added. He said Congress president Rahul Gandhi has a special connect with the people of Rajasthan.

“During the campaign, meetings and road show, he tried to connect with the people of the state. He tried to understand the on five years of misgovernance. They should have replied following the tradition, which Congress has always abided, but as they have fascist and feudal thoughts they kept running away from the questions,” he said. Pilot expressed confidence that people keeping parties promises such as farmers loan waiver in 10 days; concrete steps for employment; free education for girls; and right to health – in mind people will support congress and form their government. feelings and problems of people during three-months of intensive campaign,” he said.

Reacting to the statement of Pande, state BJP’s spokesperson Pankaj Meena said, “During Congress tenure, state got Rs 98,000 crores from Centre. During BJP tenure state got Rs 2.63 lakh crores which is almost three times more than Congress tenure. The money sanctioned reflects the good relations of CM with PM Modi.”

On question of negative campaigning, Meena said, “We are asking people to vote for us on the development work done by our government. But the Congress is asking for vote in the name of ‘kumbhkaran’.”
