MUMBAI: The driver who had all egedly dropped Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani Mukerjea’s ex-husband, at a Worli hotel on the day Sheena Bora was killed, confirmed the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) contention claiming the same on Friday.

Imtiaz Shaikh, the driver, was being examined by the prosecution to prove Khanna’s prese nce i n t he c i t y o n t he day Sheena was killed. Shaikh is the dri ver of Balvinder Si ngh Dhami, who is Khanna’s friend.

Sheena was killed on April 24, 2012 allegedly by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, Khanna and Shyamwar Rai – I ndrani’s driver – in Indrani’s car.

The prosecution on Friday examined Imtiaz Shaikh, driver of Khanna’s friend Balvinder Singh Dhami.

The prosecution claims that Khanna had come to the city to execute a conspiracy to eliminate Sheena and her brother, Mekhail Bora.

It says that Shaikh had picked Khanna up from the airport and dropped him at a hotel in Worli a few hours before they strangled Sheena inside Indrani’s car.

Confirming the CBI’S case, Shaikh told the court that he had dropped Khanna at the hotel on the evening of April 24, 2012.

“Dhami had instructed me to receive his friend Khanna at the airport on April 24, 2012. He came out of the airport around 4pm to 4.30pm. I picked him up and dropped him at the hotel,” Shaikh told the court.

Shaikh also said that after Khanna came out from the airport, he had called someone to inform that he had landed in the city.

Khanna’s lawyers have taken the defence that Khanna had never come out of the hotel and met Indrani at Bandra on the e vening when Sheena was killed.

While c r o s s - e x a mining Shaikh, Khanna’s lawyers questioned him on the time he had dropped Khanna at the hotel. Shaikh said he had dropped Khanna at the hotel by 6pm or a bit earlier than that. The prosecution claims that Khanna had checked in at the hotel between 6.05pm and 6.15pm.
