UP is the centre and heart of the country. I have made Priyanka and Scindia general secretaries and told them that they have to fight injustice that is rampant in the state

LUCKNOW: All eyes were on newlyappointed Congress general secretary of eastern Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday, as she made her political debut by embarking on a roadshow in Lucknow, being seen as the launch of the party’s campaign in the state ahead of the summer’s Lok Sabha polls.

Following a rousing reception at Lucknow airport, Priyanka Gandhi, accompanied by her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary of western UP Jyotiraditya Scindia, launched the Congress’s “Mission UP”. The beaming 47-year-old sported a kurta and a scarf, and waved at the teeming party workers jostling for a glimpse.

As the trio, along with UP Congress Committee (UPCC) president Raj Babbar and senior leaders RPN Singh and Anu Tandon, embarked on the roughly 25-kmlong roadshow through major thoroughfares, Congress workers showered flowers at the cavalcade at several spots.

“Come, l et ’ s build a new future, new politics with me. Thank you,” she said in her message to the people on Sunday ahead of the visit to the state.

Congress workers were all charged up by Priyanka Gandhi’s arrival. They were seen dancing to the beats of patriotic songs. Some even lined up at vantage points to grab a selfie with the leader, who was campaigning for the first time outside the Gandhi family bastions of Amethi and Raebareli.
