Junior table tennis players shine in Bahrain meet

DELHI: India’s table tennis players continued their winning spree at the Bahrain Junior and Cadet Open and added eight more medals to their kitty.

India won two gold, three silver and three bronze medals on Monday. Payas Jain clinched the Cadet Boys’ singles title (U-15) beating Simon Belik of Czech Republic 3-1. In the Cadet Girls’ category, Anargya Manjunath defeated compatriot Yashaswini Ghorpade 3-1 to clinch gold.

BOOK ON PRO-KABADDI LEAGUE

NEWDELHI: The growing popularity of kabaddi in India and how it is changing lives of sportspers­ons who once lived in the shadows of cricket superstars has been well captured in Vivek Chaudhary’s book – Kabaddi by Nature. Encouraged by kabaddi’s role in India’s freedom struggle, the 10 chapters of Vivek’s book is a commentary on how the Pro Kabaddi League has galvanised the sport, not only by winning millions of eyeballs on TV but fetching lucrative sums (over a crore) for half-a-dozen stars of the sport.

KABADDI TRIALS

The two-day trials of the Future Kabaddi Heroes programme was a roaring success in New Delhi’s Gyan Kunj Public School, Jaunapur with 460 taking part. Supervised by top coaches like L. Srinivas Reddy, t he i ni t i a t i v e i s a i med a t unearthing India’s next generation of kabaddi stars. After the three-stage trials, 85 players will make it to Pro Kabaddi League season 7 auction pool.
