MUMBAI: The city crime branch on Wednesday arrested a 58-yearold man from Uttar Pradesh who was wanted for 30 years in connection with an Arms Act case in the city. He was brought to the city on Thursday and remanded in judicial custody.

The arrested accused, Ashok Mishra, who used to live in Dhobi Talao, near Marine Lines, was arrested by unit 9 of the crime branch in 1989 for carrying a pistol. Although he was in custody for a few months, after coming out on bail, he fled from the city. The court then issued a non-bailable warrant against him as he was untraceable.

Although the police visited his old residence and inquired in the vicinity, they did not get any clue of his whereabouts. Later, they found the contact numbers of one of his relatives and got Mishra’s address in Sikara, UP, from him, said a crime branch officer.

A police team then went to UP last week and caught Mishra. He was brought back to Mumbai on Thursday. In another case, the police arrested 26-year-old Azim Akbar Ansari, alias, Azeem Khan

from Nalasopara for allegedly kidnapping and molesting a minor from Maharashtra Nagar, in Bandra, in 2015.

Khan, along with his friend Ijaz Khan, had kidnapped the minor girl, taken her to a bus depot and molested her. The survivor had told her parents and a kidnapping and molestation case was registered.

“We arrested him acting on a tip-off. His accomplice is still wanted,” said SI, Mahesh Desai.
