Gang of mobile thieves busted by Alwar police

JAIPUR: The Alwar police on Monday arrested six members of a gang involved in stealing mobile phones from shops.

More than 100 cases of mobile thefts across 10 states of country are registered against t he accused. Members used to sell each mobile at ₹2500 in Nepal, said S Sengathir, inspector general of police, Jaipur range.

A complaint of theft of 100 mobile phones from a shop was filed by a shop owner in Alwar district on January 13. Seeing the seriousnes­s of the case, special teams were formed by police to nab the accused. One team analysed the CCTV footages of the shops and nearby areas another team interrogat­ed people involved in cases of theft in past.

After getting details from the CCTV footages o police teams were sent to Delhi, Gurugram and Mothihari district of the Bihar and details of the accused were obtained. On February16, the accused were detained from Kapashera border, falling on Delhi- Gurugram border and later arrested.

Talking about the modus of operandi Sengathir said, “The gang is known as ‘shatar katwa’ gang. Members of this gang used to do reciie of the targeted areas around 4-5am in the morning night patrolling shift of the police gets over. Following which thinnest member of the gang would break into the targeted shops by cutting shutter.”

The accused have been identified as Sameer alias Chelwa alias Sanam (30)-kingpin of the gang, Miraj Ansari (42), Lalbabu Mahato (50), Wajul Ansari (42), Siraj Ansari (40) and Riyaz Alam (25). All are natives of Mothihari district of Bihar.
