40k houses under PM scheme incomplete

BARMER: Though district officials have been asked to achieve the target in constructi­on of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 40,009 houses sanctioned for the period from 2016-17 to 2018-19 are still incomplete in Rajasthan, according to official data.

Rajeshwar Singh, additional chief secretary of the rural developmen­t and panchayati raj department, has written to all districts collectors on September 9 directing them to ensure target achievemen­t by September 30.

Official data showed that in the beginning of the current financial progress rate in house constructi­on in the state was 549 per day from April 16 to May 31; this later fall to 299 per day during June 1 to July 12, and fell to 135 in September.

State authoritie­s directed the district officials on July 15 to ensure the constructi­on of incomplete 47,829 houses by August 15. This means that officials have been set the target of constructi­on of 1334 houses per day.

Data revealed that against the set target of 1334 houses per day by August 15, many districts were stuck at only one or two houses per day even after 58 days. On September 9 progress rate of some districts was zero. Barmer was at the top with constructi­on of 28 houses per day.

Recently during a review meeting held on September 9, state authoritie­s found that presently 40,009 houses are still incomplete in the state. They also observed that during July 13 to September 9 progress rate of completion of PM Awas houses in the state was merely 135 per day.

While directing the district authoritie­s to complete the houses sanctioned during 2016-17 to 2018-19 by the September 30, Rajeshwar Singh wrote, “It is clear that despite directions through official letters, review meetings and video conferenci­ng district authoritie­s remained negligent in monitoring the scheme.”

Data revealed that presently Dungarpur has the highest pendency of 4913 houses, Tonk on the second position with a pendency of 3685 houses, Karauli comes third with 3171 and Jalore fourth with 2581 incomplete houses.
