Barmer jail inmate tries to cut private parts to end life

BARMER: An inmate in Rajasthan’s Barmer jail tried to chop off his private parts with a shaving blade on Tuesday in a suicide attempt, a jail official said.

On hearing his cries, he was taken to hospital by jail authoritie­s. His condition was said to be stable, jail’s deputy superinten­dent Rajuram Bishnoi said.

Bishnoi said the 40-year-old inmate was sent to judicial custody for killing his wife.

Bishnoi said that on Tuesday morning the jail inmate had locked him in a bathroom where he tried to cut off his private parts with a shaving blade. “We are providing shaving blades to the prisoners every Sunday and perhaps the jail inmate managed to get the blade from the dustbin or drainage pipeline,” he said, the accused is mentally disturbed and he attempted to commit suicide.

“After cutting his private parts, he started crying; hearing the cries we reached the spot and took him to the hospital where his condition is now stable,” Bishnoi said, adding that they have given a complaint to the Sadar police to lodge a case against the jail inmate under section 309 of Indian Penal Code for attempting suicide.

Satyapraka­sh Bishnoi, circle officer at Sadar police station in Barmer, said they have got a complaint from the jail superinten­dent to lodge a case against the jail inmate, who attempted suicide by cutting off his private parts. Bishnoi said that after lodging the case they will investigat­e the matter.

According to Bishnoi, the accused jail inmate is a resident of village under Chohtan police station area in Barmer, but he was working in a field in Bhiyand village under Sheo police station area along with his wife. Bishnoi said that last week the accused killed his wife with stone over some dispute.

Sheo police has arrested him and later produced him before the court which sent him to jail where he attempted suicide, Bishnoi said.
