JAIPUR: Coming down on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday said the kind of atmosphere being created in the country is dangerous as never in the history such politics in the name religion has been done.

“Now openly message is coming because of which the atmosphere in the country is of fear. What will happen to the democracy is being questioned,” Gehlot told newspersons after an event.

Asked that BJP leaders are taking abrogation of section 370 to cities and districts, he said, “Modi went to Houston… For the first time in the world history of last 70 years, a country’s Prime Minister has campaigned for the candidate of a party of another nation.”

“This incident should be strongly criticised as our Prime Minister has flouted our foreign policy of being a non-aligned nation which was established by (first Prime Minister) Jawaharlal Nehru. His act is being criticised by one and all across the world.

“Imagine, if any other President comes in to replace Trump, then what shall be the fate of India-us relations. Personal friendships and political steps have their individual limits,” he added

“Modi and Trump can be good friends... we don’t mind it. However, being the Prime Minister of a nation, this act is unacceptable to the people,” he added.

He said through social media new generations are misguided and for the same crores are spent. It should be thought in which direction the country is moving. “It is said abrogation of 370 will create feeling of patriotism…leaders in politics should convey right things to public. Sooner or later people will understand qualities of leadership but here politics is done by creating an atmosphere of fear,” he said.

The CM said a state is closed for last 45 days and has no connection with outside. The countrymen are told that Kashimir is “our integral part”; at least efforts should be made to hold dialogues, and maintain peace, brotherhood and harmony. “The PM should address the country and tell why one-sided action was taken; why suddenly it was done; what is the situation; and what efforts were made to convince them? The PM addresses people through ‘Maan ki Baat’ every week…this is such a big issue and criticised across the world. Human rights are violated in Kashmir,” he said.

On the National Register for Citizens, he said it has failed in Assam, where people are criticising their own party.

BJP state president Satish Poonia said Gehlot is not focusing or speaking on issues related to the state, people who have made him the CM, but to please party leaders in Delhi is making baseless comments on the PM.

He said youth on social media are expressing their feelings related to the country but Gehlot again and again is insulting them. The constitution of the country gives right to every individual to express.

Poonia said Modi in his tenure has enhanced country’s respect across the world. “His leadership capabilities and popularity are the reason why people come to listen him. Today, every powerful country is standing by India and the reason behind it is the Modi leadership.”
