Banasthali finds place among world university rankings
JAIPUR: Banasthali Vidyapith, a private university in Tonk district, has featured in the recently released World University Rankings 2020 by Times Higher Education (THE), becoming the only Indian women’s university to find a place in the rankings.
THE is the data provider underpinning university excellence in every continent across the world.
In the 2020 ranking, 1,396 higher education institutions from 92 countries have been ranked. Banasthali Vidyapith is 37th among the 56 Indian universities.
Prof Aditya Shastri, vice chancellor of Banasthali Vidyapith said: ”Women’s universities have their own characteristics and I am extremely proud that only one other all-women’s university is marginally higher than us in THE 2020 World University Rankings and we are the second best in the world.”
He said that in 1935 when Banasthali was established, the concept of education for girl child did not exist. “The visionary founders still envisaged Banasthali as championing Indian education in the world - a dream which is being realised now,” Shastri added.
A release issued by the university said that it made in to THE 2020 rankings due to its research credentials.
Union human resource development minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ hailed the Banasthali family for its world university rankings, on September 20, when he visited the university for the 36th convocation.
Earlier, Banasthali has been featured in QS BRICS University rankings and QS Asian University rankings. QS has also rated Banasthali as a four star university (highest star rating in India) and it is the only university in India to be given a five star rating in “Art and Culture”.
