Minor girl commits suicide in Barmer after ‘gang rape’

BARMER : A minor girl, who was allegedly gang-raped, committed suicide by jumping into a water t ank i n Rajasthan’s Barmer district, police said.

The victim’s parents initially lodged a case of unnatural death at Rageshwari police station. Later on the basis of another complaint, police added sections of POCSO Act to the case.

Khiwn Singh Bhati, acting superinten­dent of police in Barmer, said the 15-year-old girl, who was a student of Class 11, ended life on September 22 by jumping into a water tank.

Police suspect that the victim was pregnant and had committed suicide after she was threatened by the accused. Police have booked five persons in the case.

“In this matter, initially the victim’s parents lodged a case of unnatural death at Rageshwari police station on September 23. After post-mortem examinatio­n, the body was handed over to the family members for last rites. But after cremation, on September 24 another complaint was filed alleging gangrape and threat,” Bhati said, adding that they have lodged the c as e under s e c t i ons of t he POCSO Act and 376D of IPC.

According to police, the victim’s parents in the complaint alleged that five people raped their daughter and also made a video clip. They claimed that their daughter was pregnant. According to the complaint, the accused were threatenin­g the girl and forcing her for abortion.

The complaint said the victim shared the incident with her mother on September 18. When victim’s parents went outside on September 22 and she was alone at home, the accused reached there and forced her for abortion. The accused threatened her that if she ignored their warning, they would circulate her video on social media, the complaint said.

The complainan­ts alleged that after being threatened by the accused, their daughter committed suicide by jumping into a water tank.

Police said whether the victim was pregnant would be ascertaine­d only after getting the postmortem report.

Meanwhile, the deceased minor girl’s relatives told HT that soon after the incident they were shocked and had no evidence due to which they lodged the case of unnatural death.

“Later we found a mobile phone which was perhaps provided by the accused to our daughter. We found some threat messages in the phone and also recovered some written messages. It strengthen­s out doubts and we lodged another complaint,” said a relative. “We have provided the mobile phone and written messages to police for probe and expecting that soon action will be taken.”

GANG RAPE IN ALWAR ALWAR: A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped on Saturday in Rajgarh area of Alwar, police said. Four youths have been named in the FIR registered in Rajgarh police station.

Alwar superinten­dent of police Paris Desmukh Anil said that one known youth called the 16-year-old girl and when she came out of his house she was forcefully put in a car. Four youths were in the car. “Two were her relatives and other two were their friends. Later all the four committed rape with her. At 2 am on the night of Friday they left her on the road. The victim reached Kothi Narianpur police chowki and told the story. She was taken Rajgarh police station and gave report against four named youths.”

Deshmukh said medical of the victim has been done.
