3 students die after boundary wall collapses in Udaipur

UDAIPUR/JAIPUR: Three students died after the boundary wall of a government senior secondary school at Thubawada under Kherwada police station in Udaipur district collapsed on Saturday, the police said.

The school wall collapsed after heavy rains for the last two days inundated the areas, the police said.

The students, Avinash Meena (8), Manish Meena (14) and Ayush Meena (5) were about to enter t he s chool premises around 7.30 am when the boundary wall collapsed over them and they died on the spot, the police said. Soon after the incident, a large number of villagers gathered outside the school and staged a protest. “The villages complained as to why there was no outlet to the water filled around the school premises. the police officials had a word with the villagers and the situation is now under control,” said Bhanwar Lal, the station house officer of Kherwada police station. As per the police officials, the boundary wall was constructe­d in 2014 and did not sustain the heavy downpour.

Lal said that no case has been registered in the matter. The bodies were shifted to the mortuary for post mortem, he added.

District education project officer Suresh Choubisa said that the department is also looking into the matter and investigat­ing about the condition of the school building.
