Bypolls: Congress, BJP candidates file nominations
JAIPUR: Candidates of major political parties contesting Rajasthan Assembly bypolls on Monday filed their nominations. The bypolls are slated on October 21.
The two Jat dominated assembly seat fell vacant after the MLAS Narendra Khichad (Mandawa) and Beniwal (Khinvsar) got elected to Lok Sabha.
On Khinvsar, Congress has fielded Harendra Mirdha, whereas BJP'S alliance partner RLP candidate is Narayan Beniwal. From Mandawa assembly constituency, Congress candidate Rita Chaudhary and BJP candidate Susheela Sigra filed their nominations.
The opposition BJP is contesting bypolls on Khinvsar assembly seat in alliance with Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP). The RLP convener and MP Hanuman Beniwal's brother Narayan Beniwal is the candidate from the seat.
Addressing a gathering in Khinvsar , chief minister Ashok Gehlot recalled the development works done by Congress government in the area. He said whenever Congress government has formed development has happened in the area from connecting villages with roads, electrification, drinking water, digging tube well, schools at every panchayat etc.
“When AICC president Sonia Gandhi came to Nagaur, it was announced to bring Indira Gandhi Canal to get rid of brackish water and it was brought. When she came next to Jayal, canal’s second phase was started. We have always taken care of Nagaur,” he said.
He continued Nagaur’s name got associated in country’ history, when Jawahar Lal Nehri came and inaugurated Panchayati Raj – why in such a big country, Nagaur was chosen. Mahatama Gandhi has stated that the governance should be decentralized and should be run from Delhi, and because of this Panchayati Raj was established.
State Congress president Sachin Pilot said the state government in the nine months of governance has tried to fulfil promises made in the manifesto. “These bypolls will not be affecting the government’s stability in anyway. It’s an opportunity to strengthen the government,” he said.
Speaking at the nomination rally in Mandawa, BJP state president Satish Poonia hit out at the state government. Criticising the government over rising crime, farmers’ plight and death of children in school wall collapsed, he said, “In this government no one is secure neither children, women nor farmers. This government’s farewell will be decided in these bypolls,” he said.
