BARMER: Villagers of Bawdi Kalla village in Barmer district on Tuesday locked the senior secondary school to protest the transfer of two lecturers.

Villagers said that against the sanction of three posts of lecturer at the school, one was already vacant and after transfer of the two lecturers, all the tree posts have fallen vacant now, which will affect the study of students.

The villagers have also displayed a warning on the locked gate, which says that “only higher authorities open the lock after demands are met.”

Vijay Singh Sodha, sarpanch of Bawadi Kalla village, said they were demanding t o f i l l t he vacant posts, but instead of listening to their demands, authorities have transferred two more lecturers. “When there is no teacher, then why we send our kids to the school,” said Sodha, adding that when the authorities ignored their plea they had no other option but to lock the school.

Mangaram Choudhary, the school principal, while confirming the report, said, when he reached school on Tuesday he found the school locked.

Choudhary said there were many people, who warned him not t o enter t he school. He claimed that he tried to explain the protesters, but failed, after which he informed the higher authorities.

According to Choudhary, the school has a strength of 350 students including 222 boys and 128 girls.

On getting the information, block education officer Keshar Dan reached the spot and he offered a proposal of two teachers, one from primary and one from middle school. Villagers, however, refused the proposal saying that how primary and middle school teachers will able to teach the students of senior classes.
