Hyd woman found dead in US home, kin cry foul

HYDERABAD: A 38-year-old woman from Hyderabad was found dead, in suspicious circumstan­ces, at her North Carolina house in the United States on Sunday, police here said.

Her family has alleged harassment by her in-laws may have pushed her to take the step.

The deceased, Gajam Vanitha, was living with her parents at Sai Nagar in Nagole are of Hyderabad and returned to the US, where her husband Rachakonda Shiva Kumar (42) works as a software engineer, in July.

The couple had a son and a daughter.

“She left for the US in July this year and since then, had not been in contact with her parents. On Sunday, they got a call from other relatives in the US that she had committed suicide in her bedroom,” L B Nagar police inspector V Ashok Reddy said.

Her father, Gajam Krishnaiah, in his complaint filed Monday, said his daughter was found dead in suspicious circumstan­ces.

He has alleged that Vanitha and her husband had disputes and she might have committed suicide due to harassment by her husband and in-laws.

Krishnaiah, however, refused to divulge further details.

“We shall be able to tell what exactly happened there only after we bring the body here,” he said.

Local police have taken her husband Shiva Kumar into custody for questionin­g, police officials said quoting Vanitha’s parents.

“We are awaiting further details. The family has requested our help to bring Vanitha’s body from the US,” Reddy said.
