Charge sheet filed against RPS officer

JAIPUR: The Anti-corruption Bureau on Monday filed a charge sheet against Rajasthan Police Service ( RPS) of f i c e r Aas Mohammad in a Jaipur court for his alleged involvemen­t in a bribery case busted in February this year.

Additional superinten­dent of police, ACB, Thakur Chandrashe­el, the investigat­ion officer in the case, said that the charges against Mohammad, the then assistant commission­er of police (ACP) of Jhotwara Circle, under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act were found true.

“Charges against Mohammad were found true under section 7 (public servant taking gratificat­ion other than legal remunerati­on) and 7A (inducement by public servant for illegal gratificat­ion) of PC Act and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code,” he said.

A charge sheet against Battu Khan, the then reader at Jhotwara police station, who acted as a middleman in the bribery case, was filed in the past, Chandrashe­el said. “Charge sheet against assistant public prosecutor Chandrabha­n Joshi, another accused in the case, has been pending,” he added.

Another accused in the case, the then station house officer (SHO) of Jhotwara police station Pradeep Charan, is still at large, the police officer said.

Chandrabha­n Joshi, Battu Khan and middleman Sumant Singh, who were allegedly part of a bribery racket, were arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh on February 13. Involvemen­t of Mohammad and Pradeep Charan was suspected in the racket, following which the two police officers went missing. Later, they were removed from the services.

Mohammad surrendere­d at the ACB office in Kota on August 23.
